finished block

The project Cathy was working on while we were at the quilt retreat last weekend involved sewing, then squaring up 164 half square triangles.  This is a tedious, tedious job.  One of the other ladies at the retreat had a really neat ruler that made the squaring up chore much faster and easier.  We immediately shopped Amazon for the ruler and each ordered one.  I got to try mine out on the April Block of the month that required 16 half square triangles.  I did try it out on scrap fabric and made two perfect ones on the first try, so I felt brave enough to make the 16 for the block.  It was easy, fast and, dare I say it, almost fun.  I have avoided blocks with half square triangles in the past as I detest the squaring up step. I won’t avoid them any more.  The pinwheels came out perfect, the block turned out the size it’s supposed to be and I’m a happy camper.  This new ruler was definitely worth it and it’s now a treasured part of my quilting tool collection.

Notice in the first picture– my reflection in the ruler as I was taking the picture.
