Bonnie and I went to the Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck on Friday.  We spent the day looking at ways of decorating our houses and ourselves “country style.”  There were loads of antiques, dishes, some clothing,  jewelry, plants and anything else you can think of, and remotely tie, to country.  We both enjoyed seeing how some vendors repurposed items to make them sellable.  There were pot covers with holes drilled in three places and a chain attached to make a planter. A small set of gardening tools with long handles were bound together at one one end  to form a garden trellis–this was actually very cute and clever.  The pot cover thing–not so much.  We both enjoyed a kitchen booth, looking at cookie cutters, aprons, a crock full of rolling pins, and, best of all, a wooden box full of hand crank egg beaters.  We had to try each one and we both remembered Mom using ones just like them.  We saw the fold out rulers our Dad used on his job every day and also a  metal lunch box  that we both can remember Mom packing his lunch in.   If I could find a lunch box like it, I’d buy it in a minute.  The fair was great–a way to see how country decorating is done and  as a trip down memory lane to our childhood.
