zinnia

We have a lovely patch of Black Eyed Susans right in the middle of what used to be the vegetable garden.  They’ve spread a little more each year and we hope they eventually will take over the entire garden.  The zinnias, however, this year are weird.  The plants are about 16 inches tall and the flowers are tiny, only 1 1/2 inches across.  I wonder if it’s that particular seed or there’s something wrong with the soil.  I’m thinking it’s the soil, because the marigolds in a different garden patch are doing the same thing.
