Jonathan and Shannon both had to work on Saturday, so Wes and I watched Natasha and Andrew. One of the things we did was go to the Mother Earth health food store in town. Wes needed a couple of spices for the rub he was making for the pork roast. Natasha got big kick from scooping the spices from the big jars and writing out the tags. Then, she and Andrew each got to pick something from the bulk bins. Andrew chose gummy bears (which were organic, $13.00 a pound, and delicious–better than any gummy bear I ever ate) (and at that price we only bought about 2 ounces.) Natasha picked out dark chocolate chips. She scooped about a cup into the plastic bag and on the way home we discussed what she could make with them. We decided on a giant chocolate chip cookie that gets baked in a 9 inch layer cake pan. She did most of the measuring, all of the mixing and frosted it herself. Her dad, Bumpy, Uncle John and Aunt Ellen pronounced it delicious and she was very proud of herself.
After baking the cookie we went in by my sewing machine and she helped my pick out fabric for block 15 of a 16 block flower quilt that Cathy and I are working on. She thought that was such fun, I pulled out a LWH pattern that would be easy for her to work on. We picked out fabric and she traced the pieces. Natasha cut them out while Wes and I were getting dinner ready. I promised her we would work on it some more when she comes after school on Monday. I bet her homework gets finished in a flash!
