surrounding plants

Bonnie and Paul gave Wes two elephant ear bulbs for his birthday.  We dug a deep hole and planted them about the middle of May, then waited and waited.  Finally we gave up and figured they weren’t going to grow.  Wes had even dug down to see if  they were sprouting just last week and there was nothing.  So, we bought some more plants to fill in where they didn’t come up.  Portulacas, vincas, and two spike plants filled in the hole.  The new plants are doing fine, even starting to have flowers.  Yesterday afternoon, Wes noticed a new sprout right where we had planted one of the elephant ears.  In the bottom picture, the sprout is right in the middle.  In this link, are pictures of what elephant ears grow up to be.  I don’t know what we are going to do….
