Wes and I took Desi to Howe Caverns yesterday. We took the 90 minute tour of the cave, which included a boat ride, and enjoyed it very much. This is only one of the two formations that we could touch. Our hands have a natural oil that comes off on the rocks when we touch them. The water dripping down doesn’t stick, then, and the rocks stop “growing”.
It’s 154 feet down and a chilly 52 degrees, but we kept moving and walking. It’s also very dark, making picture taking with an iPhone a little difficult. It is pretty though.
For some reason, my flash wouldn’t work,(probably operator error) so this picture is dark, like most of what I took, disappointing me.
Emerging into daylight, we purchased a bag of rocks/sand so that Desi could “pan” for treasure.
He had great fun picking out the valuables after the water washed the sand away. ( I should have taken his hat off, I know)
He came home with a pile of pretty rocks and a chart to figure out what his treasures were. That was fun for all of us.
Good day, good fun.
Sounds like a great day!
