Sunday morning, I stepped off the deck with a wash basket of wet clothes to hang on the line and almost squashed this moth. It was flopping around in the grass, often pausing to rest. The wings were a bit tattered, so it obviously had been around a while and was dying. Corey confirmed it was a moth, but didn’t have a specific ID. I showed my picture to Bonnie yesterday and she immediately said, “Cecropia.” She was right. Here’s an interesting little article about them. After looking at the pictures, I know I have seen the caterpillars around too. You never know what’s going to turn up in your backyard.
