This is the second year I’ve started a major quilting project in January. This is last year’s project. The year’s project is called Tranquility and it came as a kit from Keepsake Quilting. When I first looked at all the fabrics and how similar some of the colors were to each other, I panicked a bit. But a phone call to Keepsake got me all straightened out with the help of a chart they sent. I don’t understand why the chart wasn’t sent with the original order, but that’s a whole separate story. I’ve traced all the pieces onto the fusible and ironed the fusible onto the fabric. The second picture shows 19 lily sets, in 4 sizes, in 4 colors, with a minimum of 14 pieces per flower. They all have to be cut out, along with the heron pieces, all 27 of them, and the lily pads, grasses, reeds and dragonflies. We better have a lot of snow days this January and February.
And, do you see the bushes in the background? I have a choice on how I want to create the bushes.
I can trace and cut out 76!!! numbered pieces like this and and follow specific directions for arranging them to look like the pattern picture.
Or, I can cut trace and cut 6 sets of these leaves/bushes and arrange them for the bush background. For about 4 seconds, I thought about 76 pieces, but then, with Wes’ help, (to quote, “Are you freaking nuts????”) I realized that the 36 piece background was a much more sensible way to go. After all, the pattern is called Tranquility not Insanity.
This doesn’t look especially tranquil to me.
