One year, when either Jessica or Raven was in school, they sold flower bulbs as a class fund raiser. Wes and I bought several different kinds and planted them, mostly in the front, but under the lilac bush too. Then, we found out that deer love tulips. Our lovely spring flowers were decimated one night, never to return. Each year or so, we’d get a wayward tulip leaf, possibly waving in surrender, but never anything like the way it was supposed to be. This year, however, we got a tulip bud, and held our breaths as it grew bigger and bigger. I count my flower gardening a success if the flower hangs around long enough for me to snap the picture, so we have successfully grown a tulip. And, you know what? There’s another one coming in the flower circle down by the road!
