When I left Markertek in 2012, the lovely ladies I worked with gave me a gift certificate to the Keepsake Quilting catalog. I quickly ordered a kit I had been drooling over called Tranquility, designed by Sonja Taylor and Melinda Snell. The kit arrived within a week and then sat in my “to do” box for 3 1/2 years! Last April, when Cathy and I went to the quilt retreat in Lake George, I tossed the kit in my bag to have along just in case I finished all the other projects I had packed. Well, I must have have been super efficient during that retreat because I did finish, or get to a good stopping point, all the projects I brought.
I took out the heron kit, separated the fabrics, cut them, then started sewing the background together. Once the background was done, I traced, then cut out all the lily pads, the lilies, and all the heron pieces. It has been slow, but steady, progress. There’s a tremendous amount of machine quilting in this project, which I can only do for an hour or so at a time, or my neck and shoulders get achy. But finally, the heron (or Big Bird as the pattern designer called him) is done and hanging in our living room. I usually change the hanging quilt monthly. This one might be there for quite a while.
It is gorgeous.

Very nice wall hanging! I can see why you would want it up much longer!
