Friday night, Wes and I went to the Garden Cafe in Woodstock for dinner. Bonnie had given me a gift certificate for my birthday in 2015, and we, for unknown reasons, had never used it. I’m very sorry we hadn’t used it a long time ago because we could have been enjoying this wonderful restaurant. It’s vegetarian, but the meals are so creative and imaginatively seasoned, that the meat is not missed. Wes had vegetable miso soup and I had carrot/ginger soup. Both came with a tasty flatbread and were a great way to start a meal and, simultaneously, warm up on a cold night.
My main meal was a red lentil/sweet potato/vegetable wrap that came with steamed kale and an apple salad. The wrap was wonderfully seasoned and so filling, I ended eating the second half for lunch on Saturday. Wes had tempeh, kale, and rice pilaf. He had never had tempeh and liked it, but was underwhelmed by the kale. (he’s never been a big fan)
We skipped dessert as we were both too full, ( I can’t remember the last time I took food home) but maybe next time we’ll have room.
The decor is pretty with white, grey, and silver contributing to a relaxing atmosphere. I loved the vintage enamelware, piled with fruits and vegetables, that marked the edge of the drink prep station.
I’ll definitely go back, and soon, I hope. Anyone want to go out for lunch?
