Late yesterday afternoon, Wes and I drove to the boat launch/park in Glasco to watch an eight million pound steam generator make its stately, six mile per hour, way down the Hudson from Coeymans to Sewaren, NJ. It was the largest freight ever to travel on the the Hudson River. The generator would have faded into the gray, rainy day if not for the bright yellow sign, “Union Made in the USA.”We were surprised to see about 100 cars crammed into the tiny parking lot, probably the most that’s ever been there at once.People huddled under umbrellas and in the pavilion to watch, take pictures, and then left, maybe not realizing they were seeing a little bit of history in the making.
