After buying each of us new shoes in Montanos and Wes getting a haircut at Union Shave on Tuesday morning, we headed up to Story Nursery in Freehold. We wanted to get plants to put in the pots for display on the deck and we also wanted to get home before the predicted bad weather hit. We spent a pleasant hour in the nursery, carefully selecting plants–some old friends and some new to try–then drove home. We were both hungry, but didn’t want to take the time to stop anywhere for lunch. We made it home just as it was starting to sprinkle, unloaded the car and took down the already hanging plants on the deck as it was supposed to get very windy. Within a few minutes, we had wind, rain and hail that made the lights blink several times and then go completely out about 3pm. Wes took a nap while I read by the light of the window and then Wes took another nap while I read by the window. And so, our day passed, in relative calm, while trees and limbs were crashing down in Saugerties village and all over the Hudson Valley. We were so lucky and I am so grateful.
The power came on for a few minutes about 7pm and then went back out, only to do that again about 8pm. When it went out again, we gave up hoping for a hot dinner, and had cereal by candlelight. I had tri-berry mixture with toasted oats and a pour of almond milk. (It’s all in the attitude) The power came back on for good just before 10pm, just in time for us to brush our teeth, wash our faces and slide into bed. Being without power (and running water) makes me even more grateful for it, and I’m glad it’s back. (or my attitude may, just may, have needed an adjustment)
We were very lucky here. The likes flickered but didn’t go out completely..all around us the storm caused havoc. I too am very grateful.
