Last Christmas, Corey, Daisy, and Desi gave me a couple of quilt related items as a gift. This apartment quilt came as a paper/traditional piecing kit. I liked all the fabric choices except for the sky which I replaced with piece from my stash. The paper piecing, done in sections, which is usually pretty easy, was intricate, but I persevered and finished all the sections. In sewing the sections together I realized, due a bit to inaccurate piecing on my part and the pattern being a bit off, that the fire escape didn’t meet exactly. (it’s in the center of the dark gray piece) There was no way to rip it apart and resew it, so I put it away for a while to ponder a solution. Sometimes ideas come when you are thinking about something totally unrelated. Buttons! Or to be more specific, bird buttons. I hunted on Amazon, Etsy, and E Bay and ended up buying two different packets of buttons that shipped from China–free shipping–but they took a month to arrive. So, my quilt has been personalized—different sky and a flock of warblers. That’s what creativity is all about. Oh, and thanks, Corey, Daisy and Desi–I love it!The other quilty part of my Christmas present was the pattern for this sewing bag. I was definitely intimidated by the 4! zippers that I had to install, but by following the pattern exactly, one step at a time, it went together perfectly.
There’s lots of room inside for sewing supplies, two pincushions, and handles to grab and go. I love this too and am thinking of making another one as a gift.
This Illusion quilt I had pictured on a blog post from April when Cathy and I were at the quilt retreat. It came back from Mary, my machine quilter, about a month ago, but it took me a while to get the binding sewn. Quilting always takes a back seat to summer fun. I have lots of little projects going on, but not much time to sew lately. It may be several more months before I publish another “Finished” post.
WOW! You have been very busy! All of your projects came out really well. The bag looked hard to do.My favorite blogs.
