In November, Mary and Grace, two ladies from my Thursday night quilting group, told me about a quilter named Bonnie Hunter, who was going to publish on-line, clues to a mystery quilt beginning the day after Thanksgiving and continuing every Friday. My immediate answer was that with the holidays coming , I would be way too busy to start a new quilt. They managed to talk me into it by saying they weren’t starting it until after the holidays. I didn’t take much convincing, but my mental note to myself was, I want to finish my block of the month first, which I was happily working on this weekend, until I hit a snag that, to fix, requires a trip to Joann’s.
Not wanting to go to Joann’s yesterday, I looked around for something else to sew. Wes had lit a fire in the family room and it was cozy in there, perfect for an afternoon of stitching. I pulled out the first clue to the mystery quilt and cut the required strips of fabric. ( the top picture is the strips sewn together, then subcut and organized to sew again. The second picture is the subcuts chain-pieced and ready to be cut apart and ironed.)Two rows od the 9 patches sewn together
Finished 9 patches. For those keeping track, there are 51 instead of 50. Evidently I can’t count. These are stacked into box that Desi’s boots came in on Christmas, waiting to be joined by step 2, which is making 200 flying geese. That’s gonna take a while. Now that I’m excited about this mystery quilt, my block of the month may get stuck on the back burner temporarily. I knew that was going to happen.
Sounds like a fun project! Will be interesting to see what the mystery quilt is going to be?
