I found a recipe for homemade peppermint patties that said it was kid friendly. Knowing how much Natasha and Andrew like to help in the kitchen, it looked like a fun project to do with them. We started by mixing the ingredients with a wooden spoon, but as we added powdered sugar by the cupful, it was time for a bit of handwork. ( and yes, they scrubbed before diving in)
You will notice our peppermint pattie filling is purple. I have a box of 8 different gel colors. Natasha wanted purple, Andrew wanted blue. We did eeny, meeny, miney, mo and purple won. Andrew gets to choose next time.
They loved the hands in part. Andrew said it was just like play doh. (and a similar color too)
Then we rolled the filling into balls, many different sized balls, and flattened them a bit on the cookie sheet. Into the fridge they went for an hour, while we played outside.
Then, we dipped. I tried white melting wafers first, but it seized up, so we switched to chocolate, which worked better. Then, the balls went back into the fridge to set the chocolate.
We divided them up into two tins, one for the kids to take home and one to
serve at Raven’s birthday party on Monday night.
After lunch, we tasted. They’re pretty good!
Looks like everybody had fun! The tasting was fun too! Jill you are such a good grandma!!
