It was Wes’ idea that we drive to Olana and walk around the grounds yesterday. On the way, he said it had been years since we were there last and I surprised him by saying exactly how long it had been. We last visited Olana the day before we took Corey to college in August of 1994.

On that visit, we took the house tour, but yesterday we stayed outside.
The grounds are spectacular.
From the formal gardens
to the lawns with scattered benches
every vista is gorgeous.
After exploring the area around the house, we moved the car to a different parking area by the barn. We followed the map and walked partway around the lake
then turned onto Crown Point Road that wound through the woods, past a small swampy area. We saw two turtles sunning on a log and the first columbine of the season.
Parts of the woods were blanketed with bloodroot. (This may have been the earliest I’ve seen it)
Because it was swampy, there was Jack in the Pulpit—lots of Jack in the Pulpit–in amounts far eclipsing the four we had seen the day before.
The view from the bench at the top of Crown Point Road is breathtaking. My picture doesn’t begin to do it justice.
I’m sorry we waited 23 years between visits—that won’t happen again!
